What does this poem express to you? It is not mine but written by a friend.?

He gave to me sweet roses.
He left intact the thorns.
To teach me to be cautions.
As a way to gently warn.
Life comes with sweet and bitter.
You cannot pick and choose.
In order to win the battle
You must not be afraid to lose.
Sweet are their fragrance.
Though their beauty fades away.
Roses are a reminder.
So too will end this day.
Let me cherish every rose
And enjoy them as I may.
Knowing what makes them sweet
Is that they cannot stay.

Wow, very pretty I like it. To me it’s about living each day to the fullest, taking the good with the bad. Appreciating what you have and knowing that at any moment it can be taken from you. Good things don’t last forever, so cherish them while you can. That’s how I interpret it anyways. Once again, lovely poem.

  1. Fear without choosing is fear without losing
The one we loved and the one we love.

This poem was very creatively expressed.
It did not blow me away but your friend
is indeed talented. Send him my compliments.

  2. Sounds like someone has the sense to know that just because two people fall for each other, don’t forget reality. He likes her but he’s letting her know she can be hurt. Relationships are not all fatal, and they are not all permanent.
So, although roses are beautiful, like a beautiful relationship, they cannot last forever. You can love and have a relationship fade out without becoming bitter.
Rather I should say, you can love and enjoy it, without unrealistic, everlasting expectations.

  4. This could be a metaphor for infatuation, thus, infatuation has enticement imbued in its roots, and many people are not aware of the malicious thorns within. We have to look past allurement by studying the morality of the substance. If we allow ourselves to embrace something merely by its looks, we are embarking onto a treacherous road, however, we have to willingly accept our faults in life to grow into better people. The only way to grow is to learn from mistakes so we do not repeat them again in the future.

Your friend has an exquisite style that dazzle my mind. Please, post more of his work because he is a young Shakespeare. And thank him for being in your life because he is extremely wise.
