What is your favorite rose?

I like to have cut roses from the garden.I tend to go for Fragrance and then beauty. Please tell me your favs and why.
Please,I am looking for specific names of roses that you grow in your yard and what makes this rose your favorite. I am always adding to my rose garden.Thanks.

My favorite rose would be a tie between Mr. Lincoln (red) and Queen Elizabeth (pink). Both are hybrid tea and fairly disease resistant. The standard bush for both will grow to about eight or so feet. Although they are different the fragrance of both is excellent. That said, if you are looking for a beautiful rose without considering the fragrance you should consider the Peace rose (large yellow flower with pink tinge on the edge of the petals). While not having a fragrance they are a visual delight. There are many, many roses that produce a variety of smells. To find the best ones suitable for your area you should try the American Rose Society (or your local rose society if you have one). An alternate would be to contact Jackson Perkins (rose growers) and request their latest catalog which you will surely find suitable for drooling over.

Adder:
I have been growing roses for over thirty years and although I’ve grown a number of Peace roses I have not yet encountered one with a fragrance.

  1. my favorite is the red or blue rose since to me they look the best and they smell awesome

  2. I love climbing roses because many dont have too many thorns, and although they dont make the greatest center pieces, they are great for photos especially when they are on a arbor. I have a camellia that a lot of people mistake for a rose which is neat because they bloom now as opposed to a rose which blooms in the summer which brings people attention.

  7. I like the climbing rose ‘Zephirine Droughin’. It is an old stand-by, but very lovely and needs slightly less sun than most roses.
